New to the sport
“If you have the desire and dedication then anyone can achieve great things.”
The University of Reading Boat Club and its student members are widely recognised at many countryside regattas as a well established elite University club. With great coaching resources and top of the range facilities, we want you to come and join us, to be a part of an ever-evolving high performance club.
If you are completely new to rowing, you will not be disappointed with what the sport has to offer. As well as being a highly competitive and motivating sport, rowing is a classic University sport and is great for building upon key life skills such as team work, dedication, communication and many more. And, due to its nature of unity, the friends you make will stay with you for life as well.
The main aim of our beginners group is to enjoy rowing. Whilst enjoying your new found sport, coaches will look to see how you can develop, and help you to progress swiftly into the senior squad and challenge for places in senior crews by the end of your first year.
At the start of each academic year we give anyone who would like to a 5 week trial of the sport, with a commitment of three to four sessions per week. After that time if you enjoy it and are up to the challenge, you can become a full member, but spaces are limited. So, if you’re thinking about trying rowing when you come to the University of Reading, then please fill in our contact form and register your interest.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
