Our excellent Boathouse is only a 15 minute bike ride from campus, and sits on the bank of a stretch of over 6km of protected and often undisturbed River Thames. The river is straight and wide enough for very effective training, and has all the interest and beauty of a natural river setting. Almost whatever the wind does, a sheltered area can be found to row on.

The University Boathouse boasts ergo’s, spin bikes and free weight facilities as well as housing an impressive fleet of boats, mainly Empacher and Filippis.

Reading is in a unique location that offers easy access to the major rowing events in the UK. We are the closest University to the main training centre for the Great Britain rowing team at Caversham Lake (only 1km away), and to the 2012 Olympic rowing venue at Dorney lake (just 30min drive). The legendary Henley-on-Thames is only 10km downstream.

We are just a short walk from the heart of Caversham, allowing us to enjoy the convenience of local shops, cafes and other amenities, and only a 10 minute walk to the main Reading Station.
