BUCS Regatta 2019

Saturday:

The medals began nice and early on Saturday with the Men’s Beginner Quad of: Angus, Jack, Benji and Will taking third in the A final. This quickly being followed by George Lawton picking up a bronze in the Men’s Championship Single. Also racing in singles were our beginner women. Both Eloise and Ava racing well and finishing 4th in the D final and 5th in the C final. A fantastic achievement as they both are still relatively new to racing in singles. Furthermore, to continue with our medal count, the Women’s Intermediate Quad of: Emily, Maria, Charlotte and Kate picked up a silver in their final. This being followed by the Women’s Championship Quad of: Chloe, Rachel, Lucy and Sophie winning the A final, a very successful day for both quads. Lastly, the Women’s Championship Lightweight 2x of Victoria and Franky unfortunately missed out on the A final, and ended up finishing 8th overall.

Sunday:

Sunday was a busy day for everyone at RUBC, as there were 15 different crews racing. The day started off with the Women’s Intermediate Lightweight 1x. Both Franky and Victoria raced well, and ended up finishing 2nd and 5th in the B final. To follow the lightweights, were our heavies with Sophie finishing 1st in her B final and Kate picking up a silver medal in the A final of the Women’s Intermediate Singles. Chloe Knight, in the Women’s Championship Lightweight Singles finished a respectable second in the A final, again picking up another medal for RUBC. Following Chloe, was Lucy in the Women’s Championship Singles. Lucy raced well but unfortunately missed out on a medal, and placing a respectable 5th.

The beginners had yet another good day of racing as the Women’s Beginner A 4x picked up a bronze medal, whilst the second 4x placed 5th in the C final. Both very strong performances and admirable results from new scullers.

The Men’s squad had a successful day also, achieving third place in the Men’s Championship 2x and first place in the Men’s Intermediate 2x. The other four intermediate doubles placed; 6th in the A final; 1st in the B final; 4th in the D final and 5th in the D final. The Men’s Championship Lightweight 2x of Luca and Oli finished a respectable 9th overall. A solid performance after a short period of time in this boat, alongside the new world of making weight!!

Monday:

Monday started off with the Women dominating both the Intermediate and Championship doubles event. With Kate and Sophie picking up a win in the Intermediate 2x, closely followed by Emily and Rachel who picked up a silver. Maria and Charlotte following them down the course to finish 5th place in the A final, a fantastic result for all doubles. Moreover, Franky and Amy unfortunately just missed out on the A/B semis by 1.5 seconds, so therefore raced the C final to win by over 17 seconds. To finish, Lucy and Chloe picked up a comfortable win in the Women’s Championship double, a great end to the final day of racing.

The Men’s Beginner Singles had a good day of racing. Jack raced his first single race and won his B final, a fantastic result for a new sculler. To follow was Phil, who came 3rd in the C final, again a great result for his first race in a single. To follow Jack and Phil was Benji and Angus who placed 3rd in the F final and 4th in the D final. It was wonderful to see so many of our beginners take to racing in a single for the first time.

Lastly, the Men’s Intermediate 4x of: Alex, Dave, Joe and Rob picked up a bronze medal. A great result to follow their successes in the doubles. The Men’s Championship Quad consisting of George, Sean, Luke and Ed finished 4th overall, unfortunately just missing out on the medal spot. But nevertheless, fuelling them all for the upcoming races over the next few months. To finish, the Men’s Championship Lightweight 4x made up of Johannes, Oli, Luca and Charles finished a respectable 8th overall, again a solid performance from a new set of lightweight athletes.
