The conditions were particularly challenging, with storm Dennis calling off the beginner’s events entirely, and prospects of racing at all were doubtful. Nevertheless, our crews tackled the headwind and choppy water with excellent competence, as their adaptability was tested on the Tyne.

The Champ Men’s quad were the first to test the waters in division one, just missing out on the gold by 1.8 seconds, but took home a commendable silver nonetheless. Four RUBC Men’s Inter quads then lined up and finished 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th. Shortly followed by the Women’s Champ Lightweight quad, who won, beating Nottingham by 12.6 seconds.

Division 2 saw conditions worsen, as the women’s crews as well as the men’s champ lightweight quad waited at the start line of a slightly shortened course. The event got underway and 3 RUBC quads medalled, achieving 2 golds and 1 silver.
