RUBC Take Over the Tideway!

RUBC took eight quads to the 2019 Fours Head of the River

This year’s Fuller’s Head of the River Fours saw eight RUBC quads enter the W4X and M4X Academic categories, taking home 1st and 2nd place in both! It was exceptional to see so many of our athletes race the 6.8km course from Mortlake to Putney.

Over the past two weeks at Reading, the stream had been too fast to get boats on the water, so the 32 RUBC athletes arrived at the Tideway after enduring weeks of tough ergos. Nonetheless, the crews worked hard, kept spirits high, and made the most of training.  This resulted in some fantastic racing and results that proved that all of those ergos were worthwhile!

From over 400 entries the top RUBC men’s quad finished an impressive 4th overall, and the women went one better finishing 3rd from all the women’s crew, beating the swiss national team on the way!

Director of Rowing, Will Rand, said: “I’m especially proud of our rower’s success at this event. In the two weeks leading up to the event, the weather prevented us getting onto the river so all of our training was indoors. Nonetheless, the crews all worked hard and kept their spirits up. This was shown in the fantastic racing and results on the day.”
