The Month of the Moustache

As November hit RUBC, so did the call from the Movember Foundation to ‘grow a mo to save a bro’.

Here’s a look at RUBC’s hairiest month yet…

Throughout the month, the men’s squad have fostered their facial hair, supported their ‘staches, and braved the beard, all in aid of men’s health. Setting out with a goal of £500, they raised a total of:

£527!

All of the money raised goes straight to the Movember Foundation, tackling 3 issues that take years off the lives of men:

  1. Mental Health and Suicide

  2. Prostate cancer

  3. Testicular cancer

Welfare Officer David Few organised RUBC’s Movember campaign:

“Reading University Boat Club has a unique atmosphere of closeness and support, which is why we take such pride in taking part in Movember. Men’s health is unrecognised and undiagnosed for many - including students.

The statistics speak for themselves. Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 20-49, which on average is around 12 men per day who are taking their own lives. This is why we take mental health of all forms so seriously, so that we can raise awareness and support all our athletes with the hardships life can bring. We strive to bring the best out of each and everyone who comes to our club.”

-David Few, Welfare Officer 2019/20

A huge well done to the men’s squad and thank you to everyone who kindly donated, we raised an incredible amount for Movember. It’s still not too late to donate, link below:
