George wins U23 pennant at Scullers Head

RUBC’s George Lawton joined over 450 single scullers to take on the Thames in London this Saturday, racing over the course from University Stone Mortlake to Putney on the ebb tide.

With our stretch of the Thames in Reading having been flooded recently, limiting the outing we could get, George’s preparation had been far from ideal, but he was keen to race. The weather was kind and George put in a really strong performance to finish 5th overall (from 450) and claim the Under 23 pennant.

George commented that “This was the first time I’ve raced on the Tideway in a single and the conditions were great. I’m pleased with the result considering I started in 68th and there was a lot of overtaking to be done. Big Thank you to Will and Sean for helping on the day.”
