Week 3 update - East coast of India

After another solid week of training time we spent a fair chunk of the week rowing across the Persian Gulf (North of the Arabian Sea, and south of Pakistan) which at least looks pretty warm. We landed in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) on Wednesday evening, and travelled from the North West coast of India, passing through Guntakal (catchy), Chennai (formerly Madras 🌶👀) which is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. We then travelled south down the east side of India and have finished in the small seaside town of Kodiakkarai (there seem to be a few different spellings), and it’s probably better know to English speakers as ‘Point Calimere.’ The British (that’s our forefathers 😁) built a lighthouse there in 1890, but this has been superseded by a much larger lighthouse known as the Kodiakkarai Lighthouse. (45m tall, apparently).

You can find out more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Calimere and see it here: https://goo.gl/maps/uzeEjYPLet5srFuy8

Also this week in club activities we’ve enjoyed:

  • The inaugural RUBC bake off - some excellent entries

  • Circuits with Roddy, via zoom - fantastic to have so many people join in.

  • Club catch ups including a fancy dress social from the fresher boys

We’re keeping track of every mile and every heartbeat on Strava, and the team participate in frequent group calls to keep communicating and laughing.

Keep up to date with our social media accounts to keep track of our journey.
